I have been self-employed since 2020, doing a mix of consulting, contracting and working on my own projects. I have learnt a lot about the business side of things, managed a million things and made all the pieces fit together.

While I enjoy the freedom that comes with this and might as well continue to work this way, I can't hide that I often get the itch to explore opportunities where I can focus on a single, bigger thing with long-term potential and a team around it.

So here I am, telling you a bit about myself, just in case.

TLDR: I am a Staff-level Frontend/Web Engineer focused on developer tools, SDKs, frameworks, frontend architecture and design systems. I am exploring senior IC roles at companies building engineer-facing technical products. Remote from Europe only, consulting still welcome. Let's chat.

I've been working as a web engineer for about 16 years, lived in 5 countries and worked across startups, Yelp, PSPDFKit, open source and independent consulting. See my full resume.

At my first job and at Yelp I worked on design systems and frontend at scale.

At PSPDFKit I worked on a complex JavaScript SDK and PDF viewer in the web team, led a large share of feature development and often coordinated new features across teams.

Since going independent I have worked on a couple of AI-driven UI generation projects, testing infrastructure, SDKs, dev tooling and libraries. I have also explored AI workflows and agents on my own.

Throughout my career I have done a fair amount of open source work, including co-authoring styled-jsx, maintaining SUIT CSS and occasionally contributing to React Native for Web, Next.js and other projects.

I work primarily with Node/TypeScript/React and would like to keep doing that.

A lot of my best work has been around user-facing products, design systems and, increasingly, technical products for engineers like tooling, libraries and SDKs, which is my main area of interest.

I particularly like inversion of control and enjoy designing solutions and elegant abstractions that let other engineers build.

I am grounded, driven and reliable.

I enjoy having a good amount of ownership and room to make decisions. I am particularly good at creating clarity, overseeing work and helping groups of people stay on track and get things done. I have successfully mentored engineers in most of my roles and I love doing that.

I would love to chat if you:

  • Are looking to fill a senior IC role on engineer-facing products: SDKs, tooling, frameworks, libraries, APIs, frontend architecture, design systems etc.
  • Are a mid-size or larger company. Startups too if it is a genuinely interesting, known dev tool.
  • Have brand recognition, do impactful work and are in touch with the tech scene.
  • Hire remotely in Europe (Austria, Italy etc.) via an Employer of Record or similar. I want to stay remote.
  • Work in a Europe-friendly time zone, or at least don't need heavy overlap with Pacific-like time zones.
  • Work at a sustainable, balanced pace with a long-term view.
  • Pay well.

Note: I am also open to traditional people-management roles (EM), backend-leaning roles and frontend work on popular products (think Instagram or X).

Finally I am also still happy to stay self-employed, so consulting and contracting conversations are welcome too. Small note: while I work with clients worldwide, I can only sign contracts governed by German or Austrian law, which I can provide.
